What SafeMom does

Scan a barcode, or photograph the ingredient list when a barcode won’t scan. SafeMom checks every ingredient against a continually updated database of pregnancy guidance and research, then gives you a clear Safe, Caution, or Avoid with the reason behind it. It started in a bathroom, with a crowded shelf
The idea for SafeMom began in a tiny apartment bathroom during our founder Jamie’s first pregnancy. Faced with a shelf of lotions, creams, and makeup, she had no practical way to know which ingredients to avoid. The online lists were full of scientific terms she couldn’t recall standing in a pharmacy aisle.
“If only I could take a picture and get a straight answer.”
That wish became a plan. Drawing on her background as a registered dietitian, Jamie set out to build a tool anyone with a smartphone could use. The result is SafeMom.
Our founder
Jamie
Jamie holds a master’s degree in nutrition sciences and has worked with countless patients on evidence-based dietary and lifestyle changes. Her work in hospitals and clinics gave her firsthand insight into the anxieties parents face when they navigate health information.
Recognizing the growing role of digital tools in personal well-being, she completed additional training in data analytics and user experience design before launching SafeMom.
