How it works
From the shelf to an answer in seconds
No searching and no ingredient glossary. Scan the product, and SafeMom does the reading. Every verdict links back to a sourced ingredient page.

The four steps
Scan, read, understand, choose

Step 1
Scan
Line up the barcode and it scans on its own. No barcode? Switch to Photo and capture the ingredient list.

Step 2
Read the verdict
See Safe, Caution, or Avoid first, so you know where you stand at a glance.

Step 3
Understand why
Each flagged ingredient comes with the reason and the guidance behind it.

Step 4
Choose with confidence
Browse pregnancy-safe products in Shop, and revisit anything you have scanned in Recents.

The verdicts
Three clear answers, always with the reason

Every ingredient we could read is considered safe in pregnancy.

Worth knowing about. The reason sits next to the ingredient, so you can decide what is right for you.

Generally advised against. You see what was flagged and why it matters.
Questions
Good to know before you start
Is SafeMom a replacement for my doctor or midwife?
No. SafeMom summarizes published pregnancy guidance on ingredients so you know what to look at and what to ask. Your OB-GYN or midwife knows your history, so check with them about anything you are unsure of.
What can I scan?
Skincare, haircare, makeup, sunscreen, and other personal care products. Scan the barcode, or photograph the ingredient list when the barcode will not scan.
What do Safe, Caution, and Avoid mean?
Safe means every ingredient we could read is considered safe in pregnancy. Caution means at least one ingredient is worth limiting or checking. Avoid means at least one ingredient is generally advised against during pregnancy.
Where does the guidance come from?
ACOG, the FDA, and peer-reviewed research. Each ingredient page shows its sources and the date it was reviewed.
