SafeMom Privacy Policy
Last updated October 11, 2026
This Privacy Notice describes how SafeMom AI (“SafeMom,” “we,” “us,” or “our“) collects, uses, stores, and shares (“processes“) personal information when you use the SafeMom mobile app for iOS and Android, our websites including safemom.ai, and related services (the “Services“). SafeMom is a pregnancy-safety ingredient checker: you photograph a product or scan its barcode, and the app shows which ingredients to avoid, use with caution, or treat as fine during pregnancy.
If you do not agree with this notice, please do not use the Services. Questions? Email support@safemom.ai.
Summary of key points
- No account needed. There is no sign-in. The app identifies your installation with a random install ID and a subscription profile ID. If you choose to give us your email address, we store it too.
- What you scan can be personal. Because people use SafeMom when they are or may be pregnant, the products you check and the ingredients we flag could reveal information about your health. We handle that information with care, as described in Section 3.
- Photos, barcodes and product names are processed by us and by service providers (including an AI provider) to identify products and ingredients. See Sections 1 and 2.
- Advertising measurement. We use advertising partners to measure installs and subscriptions. They receive device identifiers and app events (such as opening the app or starting a trial). We do not design these events to include the products you scan or the ingredients we flag. On iOS, you choose whether to allow tracking. See Section 6.
- Your choices. You can deny camera and tracking permissions, turn off notifications, unsubscribe from emails, and ask us to access or delete your data. See Sections 11 and 13.

1. What information do we collect?
Information from your use of the app
- Photos of products and ingredient labels. When you take or choose a photo (using your camera or photo library, only when you do so), the photo is sent to an AI service provider, through our servers, to identify the product or read the label. A small preview image is kept on your phone for your scan history.
- Barcodes. When you scan a barcode, or we read one from a photo, we look it up in public and commercial product databases (Open Beauty Facts, Open Food Facts and Go-UPC). Your phone contacts these services directly, so they can see your device’s IP address. We also record the barcode and which source answered in a SafeMom analytics log that does not include your name or email.
- Product names. Whether typed by you or read from a photo, the product name is sent to our lookup service (hosted on Google Cloud). To find the ingredient list, that service searches the web (through Brave Search), U.S. government databases (FDA, NIH, USDA) and product databases, and may send page excerpts to our AI provider. Results are saved in a shared product catalog. Our server logs keep the product name and your IP address.
- Ingredient lists you photograph. If you photograph the ingredient list of a named product, we read the text of the list and share that text and the product name, but not your photo, in our shared catalog so that other people can see a confirmed list for the same product. When two lists from different devices match, the product is marked as verified for everyone. We store only a one-way hash of your IP address with the submission, and we do not link it to your name or email.
- Scan analytics. After each result, we record the product name, the safety status shown, ingredient counts, the ingredients flagged, a timestamp and your platform (iOS or Android) in a SafeMom analytics log. The log does not include your name, email or a device identifier. App errors are logged the same way.
- Email address (optional). If you enter your email in onboarding or Settings, we save it with your consent choice, install ID, device type, subscription profile ID and where you entered it. It is stored with our subscription provider and in a SafeMom sign-up list, and may be passed to our email service provider so we can send you messages you agreed to receive.
- Subscription and purchase information. We use Adapty to manage the free trial, paywall and subscription, together with Apple’s App Store and Google Play billing. We receive your subscription status, purchase and trial events, and your subscription profile ID. We do not receive or store your payment card number; billing is handled by Apple or Google.
- Device and app data. Device type and model, operating system and version, app version, language and locale, install ID, advertising identifiers (if you allow them), IP address, and diagnostic information.
- App and device integrity signals. To keep our service from being misused, the app sends a signal from Apple (App Attest) or Google (Play Integrity), through Firebase App Check, confirming that a request comes from a genuine copy of the app.
- Information stored on your phone. Your scan history, product cache, language choice, onboarding and hint flags, review-prompt counters, and a random install ID stay on your device. Deleting the app removes them.
- Notifications. If you allow them, we schedule reminder notifications on your device (for example, before a free trial ends). You can turn them off in your device settings.
Information from our website and from you directly
If you visit safemom.ai, we and our service providers collect usage information such as IP address, browser type, pages viewed and referring pages, using cookies and similar technologies (including Google Analytics). If you contact support, we keep your message and our reply.
What we do not collect
We do not collect your precise GPS location. We do not collect your name, address or payment card details in the app. We do not ask you to create an account or password.
2. How do we process your information?
- To identify products and ingredients and show you results, and to keep your scan history on your device.
- To build and improve the shared ingredient catalog, and to measure and improve the accuracy and performance of the Services.
- To manage your free trial and subscription, and to send trial reminders.
- To send you emails you have agreed to receive, and to respond to your requests.
- To measure which ads lead to installs and subscriptions (Section 6).
- For security, fraud and abuse prevention, including device and app integrity checks.
- To comply with the law, and to protect the rights, safety and property of you, us and others.
3. Pregnancy and health-related information
People use SafeMom because they are, or may be, pregnant or trying to conceive. The products you scan, and the ingredients we flag for you, may reveal or allow inferences about your health. We treat this information as sensitive:
- We do not sell it.
- Our scan analytics log does not carry your name, email or a device identifier.
- The events we send to advertising partners describe app activity (such as opening the app, viewing the paywall, starting a trial or purchasing). They are not designed to include the products you scan or the ingredients we flag.
- Where the law requires your consent to collect or share consumer health data, we ask for it or rely on the permissions you give in the app, and you can withdraw it as described in Section 11.
If you do not want a product name or photo processed, do not scan it.
4. Legal bases (EEA, UK, Switzerland and Canada)
If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, we process personal information on these bases: contract (to provide the app and your subscription); consent (for example, camera and tracking permissions, marketing emails, and health-related information where consent is required; you may withdraw it at any time); legitimate interests (security, fraud prevention, improving and measuring the Services, and keeping the shared catalog accurate, balanced against your rights); and legal obligation. If you are in Canada, we rely on your express or implied consent, and on exceptions permitted by law.
5. When and with whom do we share your information?
We share information with service providers who process it for us under written terms, and with advertising partners as described in Section 6. We do not sell your personal information for money. Recipients include:
| Recipient | What they do |
|---|---|
| OpenAI | Reads product photos and label text; extracts ingredient lists from page excerpts |
| Google Cloud, Firebase, Google Apps Script and Google Sheets | Hosts our lookup service, shared catalog, logs and app integrity checks; stores analytics rows and email sign-ups |
| Brave Search | Receives product-name search queries from our server |
| Adapty | Subscriptions, paywalls, onboarding and subscription profile (including email, if provided) |
| Apple and Google Play | Billing, tracking permission, App Attest, Play Integrity and in-app review prompts |
| AppsFlyer, TikTok and Meta | Advertising attribution and measurement (Section 6) |
| Email service provider | Sends emails you agreed to receive |
| Open Beauty Facts, Open Food Facts, Go-UPC; U.S. FDA, NIH and USDA databases | Barcode and ingredient databases. Your phone may contact the barcode databases directly, so they can see your IP address |
| Google Analytics (website) | Website usage analytics |
We may also disclose information to comply with law or legal process, to protect rights and safety, and in connection with a merger, financing, or sale of all or part of our business.
6. Advertising, attribution and tracking technologies
We use AppsFlyer, the TikTok Events SDK and Meta (Facebook) App Events to measure which ads lead people to install the app and subscribe. These partners receive device and advertising identifiers and app events such as app open, onboarding and paywall views, free scan used, purchase, checkout abandoned, and trial events. Under some state laws this may be considered “sharing” or “targeted advertising.”
- iOS: the app asks for your permission through Apple’s tracking prompt. If you decline, or later turn off tracking for SafeMom in Settings > Privacy & Security > Tracking, the advertising identifier is not used for tracking.
- Android: you can reset or delete your advertising ID, or opt out of ad personalization, in Settings > Privacy > Ads.
- You can also email support@safemom.ai to opt out of sharing for targeted advertising.
On our website we use cookies and similar technologies, including Google Analytics. To opt out of Google Analytics, visit tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or use optout.networkadvertising.org. You can also block cookies in your browser settings.
7. Artificial intelligence
The Services use artificial intelligence provided by third parties, including OpenAI, for image analysis and text analysis: identifying products from photos, reading ingredient labels, and extracting ingredient lists from web page excerpts. Your photos, text read from labels, and product names are sent to these providers, through our servers, for that purpose. The provider’s own terms govern how it handles that data. The safety information shown in the app is informational and is not medical advice; talk to your healthcare provider about any concern during pregnancy. Please do not use the AI features in a way that breaks the terms of our AI providers.
8. How long do we keep your information?
- On your phone: until you clear it or delete the app.
- Shared product catalog: the ingredient information we gather about products is kept indefinitely. It describes products, not people.
- Shared ingredient-list submissions: the anonymous record of an ingredient list shared from a device, which contains a one-way hash of an IP address, is deleted after 90 days.
- Email and subscription records: while you are subscribed or have an active subscription profile, and until you ask us to delete them, then as needed for legal, tax and accounting purposes.
- Server logs, analytics rows and other records: only as long as needed for the purposes in this notice, security and legal compliance, after which we delete or anonymize them.
Information in backups is deleted or isolated until deletion is possible.
9. How do we keep your information safe?
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encrypted connections and app integrity checks, to protect personal information. No transmission or storage is 100% secure, so we cannot guarantee that unauthorized parties will never access your information.
10. International transfers
SafeMom is based in the United States, and our service providers process information in the United States and other countries. If you use the Services from the EEA, UK, Switzerland or Canada, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for these transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or a provider’s participation in the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework.
11. Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, or obtain a copy of your personal information; restrict or object to processing; withdraw consent; and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights. To make a request, email support@safemom.ai. Because the app has no account, we may ask for information to find your records, such as the email you gave us or your install ID (shown in the app where available). We will respond within the time required by law, generally within 45 days.
- Withdraw consent (including marketing, tracking and health-related processing) by emailing us, changing your device permissions, or deleting the app.
- Unsubscribe from marketing emails using the link in any email.
- Deletion: on request we delete your email and subscription profile data from our systems and the providers acting for us. Analytics rows and catalog entries are not linked to your identity and generally cannot be tied back to you.
- If you are in the EEA, UK or Switzerland, you may complain to your data protection authority or the UK Information Commissioner.
12. Do-Not-Track and opt-out signals
We do not currently respond to browser Do-Not-Track signals on our website because no uniform standard exists. Where applicable law requires it, we honor recognized opt-out preference signals such as Global Privacy Control for the sharing of website data. In the app, use the tracking controls described in Section 6.
13. US state privacy rights
If you live in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Minnesota, Montana, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Oregon, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Virginia, Washington, Nevada, or another state with a privacy law, you may have the rights in Section 11, plus the right to opt out of targeted advertising, sharing, sale and certain profiling, and the right to appeal a decision on your request (email support@safemom.ai; if we deny your appeal you may contact your state attorney general). You may use an authorized agent, who must provide proof of authority.
